Gertie Edwards Grogan died at St. Brigid’s Home on February 24, 2019. Gertie was a founding member and longtime president of St. Brigid’s Guild, an exceptional friend and caregiver, a CWL member and winner of the Moe and Regina Rosenhek Award for outstanding volunteer service, and for fifty years was a key member of the W.B. Edwards Photography business located on John Street until it closed in 1992. Over the years she had worked alongside her brothers Walter and Austin and her twin Maurice, following the death of their father in 1944. To many, she was the face of the studio, taking passport pictures and portraits and managing the store. Customers loved to come in to the studio to chat and pass time with Gertie.
Predeceased by her parents W.B. Edwards and Ella Feeny, by her husband Bill Grogan and by her more recent partner Blair Kack, by her brothers and her sisters-in-law Walter (Gertrude Lefebvre), Austin (Frances Martin) and Maurice (Monique Fontaine), she leaves to mourn: her thirteen adoring nephews and nieces Linda, Carol and Marian, Susan, Robert, Bruce and Lucy, Brian, Martin, Brenda, Frank, John and Vincent, their spouses, her grandnephews and nieces, her stepson Brian Grogan and his sons Laurie and Sean, her special friend Hilary Buggie, and her many other friends within the Sisters of Charity, the Guild, St. Brigid’s Home and St. Patrick’s Parish and in the community in general.
Gertie was very grateful to the staff at St. Brigid’s for the care she received there in the last two years, and more so for their friendship and love on the third floor.
A funeral mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Church on de Salaberry on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m.. Family and friends will receive condolences at the church from 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Brigid’s Home Foundation, 2000-1270 ch. Sainte-Foy, Québec G1S 2M4. Forms will be available at the church.

Gertie Edwards Grogan est décédée à la résidence St. Brigid’s Home le 24 février 2019. Membre fondatrice et présidente pendant de nombreuses années de la St. Brigid’s Guild et membre de la CWL, Gertie était une amie et une aidante hors pair et a reçu le prix Moe and Regina Rosenhek pour sa contribution bénévole exceptionnelle. Pendant cinquante ans, elle a joué un rôle clé dans l’entreprise de photographie W.B. Edwards, située rue St-Jean, jusqu’à sa fermeture en 1992. Elle a travaillé aux côtés de ses frères Walter et Austin et de son jumeau Maurice, à la suite du décès de leur père en 1944. Pour beaucoup de gens, Gertie était le visage du studio, s’occupant de la prise de photos passeport et de portraits et de la gestion de la boutique. Les clients se plaisaient à entrer dans le studio pour bavarder et passer du temps avec elle.
Précédée dans la mort par ses parents W.B. Edwards et Ella Feeny, son mari Bill Grogan and son ami des dernières années Blair Kack, ses frères et belles-sœurs Walter (Gertrude Lefebvre), Austin (Frances Martin) et Maurice (Monique Fontaine), elle laisse dans le deuil ses treize neveux et nièces qui l’adoraient : Linda, Carol et Marian, Susan, Robert, Bruce et Lucy, Brian, Martin, Brenda, Frank, John et Vincent, leurs conjoints, ses petits-neveux et nièces, son beau-fils Brian Grogan ainsi que ses fils Laurie et Sean, sa grande amie Hilary Buggie et de nombreux autres amis au sein des Sœurs de la charité d’Halifax, de la Guild, de St. Brigid’s Home et de la paroisse St. Patrick de même que dans la communauté en général.
Gertie était très reconnaissante envers le personnel de St. Brigid’s pour les soins qu’elle y a reçus depuis deux ans, et davantage encore pour l’amitié et l’affection de l’équipe du troisième à son égard.
Le service religieux sera célébré le samedi 9 mars à 11 heures à l’église St. Patrick, rue de Salaberry, où la famille et les amis recevront les condoléances à compter de 10 heures.
Au lieu de l’envoi de fleurs, un don à la Fondation St. Brigid’s Home, 2000-1270 , ch. Sainte-Foy, Québec G1S 2M4 serait apprécié. Des formulaires seront disponibles sur place.
